Why is something like this called a "practical joke"?
My child is a Montessori veteran, so I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with Practical Life.

To quote my husband, just now:
"Why is not a practical joke? You hide it in someone's chair and embarrass them by making it sound like they farted."
The man is a scientician. I suggest you obey him. I command it!
---- Editor's note: I am entirely convinced of the hilarity ensuing from use of the item. What escapes me is what makes it 'practical' in the sense of 'useful, handy, sensible, matter-of-fact." Ah well. I guess the utility of fun is lost upon me, colorless soul that I am. I bow to Professor Van de Leery Polyp's astute insights into the matter.
