sexegenary anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. zeno's post about this is more thoughtful and openhearted than anything I could attempt, and I'm grateful for it.
I hadn't really been thriving lately (more the reverse), and finally made noise to my great psychopharmaceutical guru, who made a change that helped me. A lot. Immediately. Lesson learned: Don't suffer in silence. Well, you know, actually, silence is not my hallmark, is it? I guess more like: make your noise to someone who's in a position to propose effective action.
Hey! Well, sometimes the obvious things aren't so obvious. Glad you're feeling better.

the saying in english, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" has (to my knowledge) no parallel in japanese. it sometimes gets translated as "the nail that sticks up will be hammered down" which you can understand has a different meaning. although both things are true. and previous hammering may be the cause of some hesitation to squeak.

and also: i don't know whether you heard about the 45% of britons who had "never heard of auschwitz". (60% of women 35 and younger). i think the questions were skewed and i think the results are thus exaggerated, but still. let's say half of the people would have understood the question in a different context. that leaves 22-30%, which is still pretty disgusting.
on the upside, 45% were against prince harry dressing as a nazi, so it's good to see they still have their moral outrage firmly in place, even if they don't remember why it's outrageous.
